Permanent Handrails

NON-DRILL can form part of a permanent handrail solution using suitable existing or planned cast-in connection points, avoiding new fixing holes in finished concrete. On some retaining-wall projects, posts and rails used for temporary Edge Protection can be carried into the permanent arrangement as backfilling finishes, without leaving the edge unprotected during the changeover. The final connection, sealing, handrail geometry and loading are detailed for the permanent use and project requirements.

The starting point

Use the connection already available, or consider it early.

NON-DRILL begins with the structure, the anchor or fixing point and the Edge Protection requirement. The product is then matched to the application rather than forcing the project into a generic arrangement.

01

Existing connection

Identify what is already cast into or available on the structure and review the relevant NON-DRILL product.

02

Design-stage connection

If the project is early enough, consider the position and purpose of the connection before manufacture or construction.

Application journey

From project information to an agreed pathway.

Each application follows the same route: identify what the structure already offers, match it to a connection, and agree the installation arrangement.

01

Review the structure

Confirm the element, project stage and when Edge Protection is required.

02

Identify the connection

Review existing anchor information or the opportunity to plan a connection into the build.

03

Confirm the arrangement

Provide the relevant product, installation and technical information for project review.

Common questions

What project teams need to know first.

Can NON-DRILL be considered for Permanent Handrails?

NON-DRILL can form part of a permanent handrail solution using suitable existing or planned cast-in connection points, avoiding new fixing holes in finished concrete. On some retaining-wall projects, posts and rails used for temporary Edge Protection can be carried into the permanent arrangement as backfilling finishes, without leaving the edge unprotected during the changeover. The final connection, sealing, handrail geometry and loading are detailed for the permanent use and project requirements. The available anchor, structure and complete Edge Protection arrangement must be reviewed for the project.

Does the anchor need to be planned into the design?

Not necessarily. Existing anchors are the most common starting point. Where the project is still at design stage, connection points can also be considered early.

What should I send for an initial review?

Send drawings, anchor details, dimensions, clear photographs, the project stage and a description of the Edge Protection requirement.
